*We kindly request that for all exercise classes that require shoes, please bring clean sneakers to change into - thank you!*

Class Descriptions

Barre

No dancing experience is required for this class, and it does not involve choreographed dance! Barre uses high repetitions of movement with low impact moves, light weight or body weight to tone all over. This class engages muscles many do not normally target and provides for long, lean muscle tuning. Barre classes are open to all ages and abilities!

Half-Hour Power

Jamie’s 30-minute classes incorporate strength, cardio, circuit, TRX, kettlebells, medicine balls and more – no two classes are alike! All classes include modifications for all levels of fitness. You will not get bored with these fun workouts!

HIIT

Angela’s high-Intensity Interval training offers short bouts of cardio training interspersed with challenging strength-building exercises and brief recovery periods. You will get a full body workout in a short amount of time with this high-energy class!

Mindfulness and Meditation

In this class, Mya-Lisa will use mindfulness, meditation, and visualization techniques to guide you in navigating difficult emotions and negative thought patterns, to discover the deep well of possibility within you. Research has shown that mindfulness increases the neuroplasticity of the brain, and can help with sleeplessness, stress, fatigue, anxiety, overwhelm, and burnout. This class is designed for all those seeking to explore the space beyond habitual thought and reaction, a place of self-compassion, inner wisdom and joy.

Slow-Flow Yoga

Come find your “slow-zone” at the end of a long week with a bit of self-care for the tired mind and body. Jen and Julie will guide you through a series of flowing yoga postures that will strengthen, stretch, and relax the entire body with breathing that will calm and center your mind. Modifications are provided to accommodate beginning and intermediate yoga participants.

Strength and Cardio Fusion

Melanie, PT, will lead this full-body workout that blends cardio challenges with strength training in this fun and dynamic class. She will provide modifications for all fitness levels and finish with a good long stretch. You will leave feeling tired, but terrific!

Streeeeeetch

This class, taught by Sonja, PT, is ideal for athletic adults – cyclists, swimmers, runners, and hikers – as well as all those looking to get a deeper stretch and improve their flexibility and spinal range of motion. She will lead you in both dynamic and static stretches that will help to reduce your risk of injury and chronic overuse syndromes as you hit the trails, pool, or field.

Tai Chi

Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese martial art practiced in many styles. The “sun” style, which is the form Andy will be offering in Hampden, has been the subject of rigorous scientific studies that reveal its health benefits, including cardiovascular support, improved muscle strength and flexibility, and increased balance for fall prevention. The practice entails a fluid movement and flow produced through the integration of mind and body. It has in fact been called “meditation in motion” and that phrase probably captures the essence of the practice better than any other. It is about balance, both physical and mental.
